Helambawewa Primary School Students Equipped for Sports

Helambawewa Primary School in Welioya, Mullaitivu, received PT kits for all 54 students on 11th September 2026, enabling them to take part in sports and extracurricular activities after school, something many previously could not do without proper kit. Covering Grade 1 to Grade 5 students, the donation addressed a gap identified at the school: most students did not own a PT kit, which limited their participation in after-school sports and physical activities. Sport plays an important role in a well-rounded education, building teamwork, discipline, and confidence alongside academic learning.
The project, valued at LKR 200,000, was funded by Sri Lankan donors keen to support rural school students, demonstrating how contributions from Sri Lankans at home and overseas can directly address practical needs at the community level. The donation was made through IMSL's Philanthropic Giving platform, which connects donors with verified, community-identified needs across the country.
As part of the same visit, we provided the families of two students with disabilities with basic household necessities to support their daily living. Additionally, all students at the school received a milk packet, biscuits, and cake during the visit as a small but meaningful gesture that turned the day into a moment of celebration for the entire school.
Welioya's schools continue to face resource gaps that go beyond textbooks and classrooms. Projects like this one show how relatively modest contributions can open up opportunities, in this case, ensuring every student at Helambawewa can take part fully in school life, on and off the field.
